Drake and auction house Sotheby’s are teaming up for an art exhibition of contemporary works of black American artists. The New York Times reports that Drake’s contribution to the exhibit, which begins Apr. 28, will be to curate the soundtrack for over 20 works from artists such as Nick Cave and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Sotheby’s hopes that Drake’s involvement will boost their private sales business as they consider him one of today’s “foremost cultural tastemakers,” according to a statement given to the Times.
The rapper isn’t the biggest fan of shouting out art in his raps like his peers Kanye West and Jay Z, but according to a statement from his spokeswoman he does draw inspiration in his music from art. It will be interesting to which piece of art he connects with “Know Yourself,” which should be included purely for historical purposes.[via The New York Times]
